Are you someone who has the ability to be self motivated without any trouble? Or do you struggle trying to keep on track and focused?
Maybe you find keeping self motivated these days has become more of an upward battle for one of a number of reasons. It could be that just life in general has put an enormous strain on your motivation ability so find ways to become self motivated again.
Take some time out to review your present situation. Ask yourself where you are going, what goals have you set to achieve? Think about where you see yourself and want to be in 5 years time and what measures you need to put in place to get there. Until you know or can visualize your end result you will struggle to be self motivated?
So spend time setting your goals. Write them down carefully, set short and long term goals for the different areas of your life: your personal life and professional life. Identify any specific plans you may have but are not sure how they will fit in with your overall life plan. Once your personal and professional goals have been set and recorded this will give you reasons to be self motivated.
By working towards your goals spending time nurturing them each day you will know and feel your self motivation at work. You will begin to feel your adrenalin fire you up.
Ensure you do not give up at any time even if you face a minor setback. Rehearse in your mind how you would deal with a setback if it occurred. Learn to prepare yourself for this and if a setback occurs you will know how to overcome it and be ready and able to do so.
Sometimes the reason self motivation is lost is because you no longer value what you are striving to achieve then you lose track or sight of the purpose of being motivated. Maybe your plan has changed or maybe you have given up on yourself as you don’t feel you will be able to achieve what you originally thought you were capable of.
If this is the case, re-assess your goals and remind yourself what you are trying to accomplish. Should you find your goals have changed, review your plans and set new goals maybe just focusing on short term goals to begin with?
Resist the temptation to choose a goal that may appear to be the right thing to do, but doesn’t feel right to you. Trust your inner feelings on this one.
Become more self aware of your true feelings, thoughts and values and be able to understand the outcome you reach. As soon as you appreciate the level of your self awareness you will be able to realise what your self motivations are which will help you to achieve greater success in whatever you choose to do.
So when someone asks “are you self motivated”, you will be able to answer yes indeed I am.
